Notes : Brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. He studied in France and was a committed Jacobin and a partisan of Robespierre, and was involved in the activities of the Revolution. Later he became estranged from his brother the Emperor and went into self-imposed exile in Rome, where he was created Prince of Canino by the Pope. He was a prolific art collector and scholar of literature and archaeology. In 1828 he organized the excavation of Etruscan tombs on his lands of Canino, bringing to light a wealth of Greek vases.
