Notes : He matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1817 and was elected a fellow in 1823. Ordained deacon in 1826 and priest in 1827, he was presented in 1830 to the living of Lyndon, in Rutland. As a theologian he was a staunch opponent of the Oxford Movement, but he acquired a greater reputation as a writer of school books. These include A Latin Syntax and First Reading Book (1836); Essentials of Greek Accidence (1838); Practical Introduction to Greek Prose Composition (1838), which was extremely successful and made use of the system and researches of recent German scholars; Henry's First Latin Book (1839); in collaboration with the Revd J. E. Riddle, an English–Latin Lexicon (1847 ) based on a German work by Dr C. E. Georges; and dozens of editions of Greek and Latin authors and handbooks of antiquity. Later editions of Arnold's Latin and Greek Prose Compositions, revised by G. G. Bradley and Evelyn Abbott, appeared in 1881.
